Slip-inlaid Buncheong bowl

Joseon Dynasty (1392-1897), 15th century

Decorated with repeating stamped geometric impressions and a central flower medallion to the interior, inlaid with white slip. 4.5cm high, 12.25cm diameter. Two small hairline cracks to the rim. Together with an old Japanese wooden box inscribed by Zoroku Mashimizu II (1861-1936). Provenance: Collection of Zoroku Mashimizu.

Zoroku II was a leading Kyoto ceramicist of the Meiji, Taisho and Showa Periods who travelled to Korea and China to study ceramics to inform his own designs and production, and also collected Chinese and Korean ceramics as study pieces.
