Potted in the round but then paddled square at the sides and mouth, decorated with the ‘Four Gentlemen’ - plum blossom, orchid, chrysanthemum and bamboo within rectangular reserves each to one side, beneath a faux-wood-grain border, the mouth rim accented with iron-brown enamel.  14.3cm high, 16.7cm wide.  Together with a fitted early black-lacquer lid (turned deep brown from age) and a Japanese wooden box with hakogaki (authentication) on the inner surface of the lid (unread).
