Of ovoid form with an upright neck and rolled rim in roughly potted grey stoneware, decorated with a combed wavy line to the shoulder and a vertical combed line to body, the surface with a rich dark reddish-brown iron flush to some areas, other parts showing the cool bluish-grey Bizen clay, areas of goma (sesame) glaze, and the remnants of another vessel stuck at the side, forming a rich and desirable keshiki (firing scenery/landscape).  24cm high, 18.5cm diameter.  Together with a hand written letter of authentication by renowned 20th century scholar, author and authenticator of old Bizen wares Katsura Matasaburo (1901-1986).
