Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), 16th/17th Century

In melon form with six lobes decorated with scenes of figures in landscapes in shaped reserves against a diaper patterned ground in mother of pearl inlay, with a fitted gilt-copper lid of open basket weave design.  Made in China for the Japanese tea ceremony market. With lid, 8cm high, 11cm diameter.  Together with an old Japanese brown-lacquered wooden box.
