























Ding-style Qingbai carved twin fish and waves bowl

Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127)
Finely potted in slightly curved conical form with a gently everted rim, with carved and combed decoration of two fish leaping amongst waves to the interior, the unglazed base inscribed with a large black ink character hai (ocean), covered in an ivory tinged glaze, the glaze and carved decoration showing a clear influence from Dingyao ceramics of the same period. 6.5cm high, 18.5cm diameter. Condition: fine with no cracks or chips and a good high-fired ring when tapped, the only flaws being some iron spots to the interior. Provenance: purchased by the current owner in Japan in the 1980s.
