Cast in bronze with rounded sides and slightly flared foot, small twin bosses below the rim to either side, with remnant gilding to the outer surface and with very fine and wonderfully executed incised decoration of scrolling heavenly/imaginary flowers below a repeating four-petalled flower border at the rim. This type is reserved specifically for offering rice in a Buddhist temple, known as a kondo hosogemon busiyoku kaho-bachi in Japanese. 8.5cm high, 27.8cm diameter. Together with a fine fitted wooden box with clear brown lacquer coating.
