Cast thickly in sawari bronze as a wide bowl of beautiful elegant form with gently rounded bottom, covered in a rich greenish verdigris patina to the outside, the interior with the original rich brownish orange patina with areas of verdigris flush, and small areas of verdigris encrustation throughout. 4.5cm high, 15.9cm diameter.  Together with a black Japanese wood box.

Note: sawari is a Japanese term for high copper content bronze, typically 100 parts copper to 15-25 parts tin. Such bronze vessels were typically used by the Korean noble classes during the Goryeo Dynasty. In addition to display, this piece is also suitable for use as a fine kensui (waste water bowl) or to display chabana (tea flowers) for tea ceremony.
