30. Octagonal kashibachi with travelling scholar design

Ming Dynasty, Tianqi Period (1620-1627)

Decorated with a scene of a Taoist scholar riding on a donkey with attendants from his hermitage enshrouded in a bamboo forest, with alternating blocks of blue and white to the cavetto.  4cm high, 23cm diameter.  Together with an old Japanese wooden box.  Cat. 107

Condition report (carefully viewed under UV, strong light and magnification): extensive fritting around the rim (production/firing flaws).  One vertical hairline crack to the rim at the upper right-hand facet edge extending approximately 3cm, and a small shallow chip to the underside of the rim next to the hairline crack.
