Ming Dynasty, Tianqi Period (1620-1627)
Thickly potted and with a protruding ‘bun’ centre, each decorated with Hyotan Sennin (Chinese: Li Tieguai) riding on a double-gourd over waves each in a different pose, the rim with a border of plum blossoms floating amongst waves. 4cm high, 22cm diameter. Together with a Japanese wooden box. Cat. 108

Condition report (carefully viewed under UV, strong light and magnification): a few small frits to each rim and kiln grit to the interior. One of the dishes with a larger piece of kiln grit adhering to the cavetto and a short firing crack to the rim (all production/firing flaws).
