13. Dish with design of brushes and calligraphy

Ming Dynasty, Tianqi Period (1620-1627)
The centre decorated with two reserves each containing two characters against a solid blue ground with horizontal lines, the rim decorated with groups of two and three brushes, the inscription reading bi deng gao ti translating to 'writing reaches the highest rank'. 2.5cm high, 13.3cm diameter. Together with a Japanese wooden box. Cat. 678

Condition report (carefully viewed under UV, strong light and magnification): very minor fritting to the rim in some small areas (production/firing flaw). One very minor shallow glaze flake to the rim.
