Moulded in the shape of a half-opened fan, raised on three feet, with a calligraphic inscription to the interior, taken from a poem by Song Dynasty poet Su Shi/Su Dongpo (1037-1101) reading: ‘The apricot blossoms are red for ten miles, and Ma Rufei returns as the number one scholar’ (an excerpt celebrated for giving inspiration to young scholars). 4cm high, 21.5cm long. Condition report (carefully viewed under UV, strong light and magnification): fritting to the edges including the moulded fan spines to the base. Shallow glaze chip to the upper right-hand corner.
