The Melbourne Fair

1 - 3 August 2025

Carl Wantrup Asian Art will be participating in The Melbourne Fair, taking place from 1 to 3 August 2025 at Caulfield Racecourse.

I’ll be exhibiting a carefully curated selection of Japanese tea wares, Chinese ceramics, Japanese studio pottery and porcelain, and Korean ceramics – chosen for their beauty, rarity and significance.

I will also be giving a talk at the fair on the evolution of Japanese tea wares on Sunday 3 August at 1pm to 1:45pm: Japanese Tea Wares from the Momoyama to Showa Periods. This talk will touch on the origins of tea culture in Japan and its influences and wares from China, moving on to the birth of wabi-cha in the Muromachi Period, the explosion of tea wares from the Momoyama to Meiji periods and the renaissance of tea wares in the Showa period.

The fair opens with a special preview on Thursday 31 July, 5pm–9pm, and continues Friday and Saturday (10am–6pm) and Sunday (10am–5pm).

For complimentary entry during general admission (1 to 3 August), please use this link.

To attend the Opening Night Preview on Thursday 31 July, feel free to DM or email me at info@carlwantrup.com.

Whether you're a long-time collector or simply curious to explore or learn about Japanese tea wares, I look forward to welcoming you to the fair.
